MASCARADA is a Latin Psych Rock duo consisting of Leana Courtney and Shawn Grindle. Based in Los Angeles, the two released their self-titled debut record in May of 2017. Their sound can be described as having souring, effect-driven Spanish vocals, on a bed of soulful Latin grooves, wrapped in a blanket of 60's psych rock guitars. The record explores many different styles and genres, while continuously staying focused on their traditional psychedelic sound.
The two co-write all of their songs together, with either one coming up with the music and Leana adding the vocals. The blend comes from Leana's love of Latin music and Shawn's craving for 60's pop rock. When they heard the combination of sounds for the first time, the result was exhilarating, and so they set out to make an entire record.
They plan on getting back in the studio for a follow up record in 2017.
